Neco Ventura is a Senior Research Scholar, the Head of the Centre for Broadband Networks and Applications at the University of Cape Town and the Director of the Communications Research Group in the Department of Electrical Engineering.
His research interests are primarily in the field of networking, currently centered on the Software Define Networking and Networking Function Virtualization paradigms in next generation mobile networks and architectures, the Internet of Things and Machine to Machine communications. He has supervised to completion 12 PhDs and over 50 MScs by research.
His academic activities span from 4th year to Master courses in Computer Networks, High Speed Networks and Broadband Mobile Networks. He is currently supervising Masters by Research and Doctoral candidates.
He is directing an academic research team, working on a range of research projects in the field of wireless multimedia communications, sponsored by industry and led a research team in an EU FP7 project funded by the Department of Science and Technology in South Africa.
He has held positions on several conference organising committees and is on the technical program committees of various international conferences.
Over the last decade he has contributed over 100 publications in refereed journals and international conferences. Neco is a member of the IEEE Computer and the IEEE Communications Societies
